Philip

Philip was recently married when Jesus called him to be his disciple. At that time he had no children. We do know that he had one child. Her name was Leah, later she became known as the prophetess of Hierapolis. Philip came from a family of seven, three boys and four girls. He was second to the oldest in his family. Philip lived at Bethsaida, in Galilee. His father was a fisherman but wither Philip followed his fathers profession is uncertain.
Philip was around twenty-seven when Jesus called him to be his disciple. When Jesus was going into Galilee he saw Philip and said "follow me." Philip followed Jesus and also brought Nathaniel (Bartholomew) to Christ. (John 1:43-48) Philip went to the Pentecost after Christ's ascension into heaven. After that Philip traveled and preached in Azotus and Cesarea. During those travels at one point he talked to an Ethiopian eunuch and baptized him on the side of the road. (Acts 8:26-39)
Philip finally died at Heliopolis in Phygia. He was scourged thrown into prison and then crucifed. Foxes book of Martyrs says that "at length suffered, in Hierapolis, a city of Phrygia, being there crucified and stoned to death; where also he was buried, and his daughters also with him." Philip's wife stood at the foot of his cross while he was dying and encouraged him to forgive his murders. And when his strength failed she began to tell him of Christ. This angered the Jews, so they stoned her at the foot of her husband's cross till she died. Another version of Philip's death is that he was bound to pillar and starved to death.
